Week of September 19, 2011
Textbook distribution has finally ended except for some math textbooks that had to be reordered due to rain and a few getting damaged. Now the next event for English classes to attend is Library Orientation as well as Picture Day. (Dates for Pic day will be announced ASAP)
English 9- This week students will finish reading "Thank You Ma'm" and will begin reading the "Scarlet Ibis". Depending on time some classes may need to finish reading for homework. Vocabulary quizzes will continue this week with quizzes on Vocab Unit 3 on the 22nd and the 23rd. Words have been assigned and defintions given in class. Words are also posted under the vocabulary tab on the website. Most vocabulary quizzes have been the highest I've seen and a few retakes will be administered as soon as possible.
English 10 Honors- Due to shortened 1st and 2nd blocks the honors 10 classes are about a story behind. We have finished our Nonfiction and media literacy notes. Now we are applying what we have learned to news articles, and videos. The first informative piece is the Columbian Mudslides which occured as a result of the Volcanic erruption and ice melting in November of 1985. The second piece we will begin reading is based on the rescue efforts during the Florida Flight 90 crash. Because we are a bit behind students will read the nonfiction information in class and will be responsible to read the comparible fiction short story pieces in their literature books for homework.
